March — the pendulum swings.

This month brought emotion across the spectrum: mourning the loss of a friend gone too soon, puppies riding the St. Louis Wheel, students talking about their fears of violence in the city, athletes punching their ticket into the Big Dance.

At times, what those in the industry call the pendulum can be difficult to navigate. Challenging moments must be photographed with empathy and moments of celebration can be chaotic. But, the goal is always to keep a cool head and, at times, take a step back when you know someone needs a moment.

Despite the chaos, I really tried to make a point of narrowing in moments during my assignements this month. If everyone was going one way, I tried to go the opposite way. An attempt to look for quiet, quirky and emotional moments. My hope is our audience can truly experience the scene I'm documenting and share the emotions conveyed in the stories I am priveleged to share.
